3rd Annual Commemorative Event
IN HONOR OF THE 162ND ANNIVERSARY OF CAILLOUX'S HEROIC DEATH
Tuesday May 27, 2025, 5:30pm-8:00pm
We returned to Le Musee de f.p.c. the only free people of color museum in the country to honor Cailloux on the day of his actual death. In partnership with the Louisiana Creole Research Association, McKenna Museums, Xavier University of Louisiana, and the Catholic Church Cemeteries. There were beautiful performances by OperaCréole and Mikhala Iverson. A warm welcome by Beverly McKenna, a beautiful walking prayer by the Women of Wakanda and heartfelt readings and speeches by Councilman Eugene Green, Councilman Oliver Thomas, Leon Waters, two historical re-enactors, Richard Keller (Buffalo Soldiers) and Marquett Milton, a historical site interpreter from the African-American Civil War Museum in Washington DC.
We thank our funders, Search For Common Ground, Alembic Community Development and Newcorp Inc.
